- The class was a 6-8 hr. One day intensive / "Master" Class
- best part? Risa is forthright and candid.
And, if you haven't had much experience working on camera, you have that opportunity and can view your work post-class to make personal adjustments. - Worst part? To me it seemed that despite spending an entire day together there was little genuine engagement. The experience was a bit 'paint by the numbers', if you will.
To top it off, in parting ways Risa's demeanor solidified my perception of things. The long and short of it is: I had a query for Risa post-class and she seemed 'over it' all. She essentially brushed me off with an: 'I don't know anything' type deflection to my introduction of the topic (prior to my even asking the question!). Well, thanks!, that'd have been nice to know prior to me writing you a check!
Admittedly there were your requisite attendees that were queing up to ask bothersome nonsense and perhaps I was simply too far along in the line, so that when I had an opportunity to have Risa's ear she had had enough... But having just doled out significant coin! and not having had much to work with in terms of scenes offered, an instructor can spend half a minute.
When she left the room, disengaging from the class, I realized it was to greet a personal friend waiting. So the message, to me, was: "Scored some extra money on this short jaunt east, see you suckers if you ever make it to La la land!-- Maybe." - Recommended? I'd recommend classes LIKE it because Risa is a prominent fixture in the TV/Film casting landscape and if you do solid work for someone of that ilk, well, you could be on shows and projects they cast or even direct.
There was little to be gained from any technical/acting fundamental advice offered. This was my biggest take away. I learned more about what I don't need. I don't need to be chasing casting directors who're trying to make supplemental income.
I'd rather hone my skills in a true RECURRING scene study class where I'm working on plays and more substantial text. Which inevitably require you to focus on and maintain your voice and movement basics.
You won't shine with mediocre writing and lackluster scene offerings, no matter who you are. - Key words? Individual Attention, Informative, Interactive, Positive Peers, Disappointing
